A “mystery” buyer is looking to purchase the rights to Kim Kardashian’s sex tape from Vivid in order to “completely remove it from the market.”
A lawyer in Tennessee representing the mystery buyer sent Vivid a letter saying they were looking into acquiring all the rights. They add that the party doesn’t intend to “distribute or broadcast the ‘tape’, but hopes to completely remove it from the market.”
They are also looking to buy all raw, unused footage that never made it to DVD. Of course, the buyer may very well be Kim as the lawyer adds, “We would purchase any other footage you may have control of that involves Ms. Kardashian.” Ray J’s name doesn’t come up at all because who cares about him.
But, wait. Ms. Kardashian? Isn’t it Mrs. Kardashian now? How old is this letter? Is this another PR stunt? Maybe.
According to TMZ, Vivid has set the price of the tape to $30 million. “Based on its long term value, it looks like $30 million would be a starting point for a discussion on all of the rights. I have no idea who is behind this offer … but If it’s Kim, I have a tremendous amount of respect for her. She has my number and can call me any time.”
What good will buying the rights do. Everyone knows it exists and it won’t be hard to find once it’s off market. It doesn’t really damage the Kardashian brand at all. In fact, it’s nice for people to see a celebrity’s humble beginnings. For $30 million, I’d tell Vivid to pound sand and let the tape go.
